Project H.O.P.E. Our Visit to the Orphanage in Higuey, Dominican Republic
There were two highlights of our trip to Punta Cana. One was the catamaran excursion with the majority of the HopRocket group, and the other was the Project H.O.P.E. activity where the entire group attended! HopRocket members booked the Punta Cana trip for the opportunity to donate their time as part of HopRocket's Project H.O.P.E. We connected with the all-boys orphanage, Fundación Un Mundo Mejor Para La Ninez Desamparada, as most are gender specific in the Dominican Republic.
The HopRocket squad brought everything from clothing, shoes, backpacks, school supplies, soccer balls and other toys. The crowd favorite was by far the sunglasses! Once that bag of sunglasses was brought out nothing else mattered, they were happy! The boys were uneasy at first with strangers coming into their home; eventually, they warmed up and were very appreciative. We visited with them for a few hours.
Very few of us spoke Spanish, but we built a connection with each of the boys that were far beyond anything verbal. The few hours with them weren’t enough. Our soccer and football games were just starting to heat up.
What we did at the orphanage:
We challenge all of you reading this to donate your time and spread hope in your community once a month. We will be announcing our next trip in the coming weeks, stay tuned!
Helping Other People Everywhere
Make a difference in your community or wherever your travel dreams take you. Our Project H.O.P.E. is for our Member Community to experience remarkable vacations while offering helping hands to those in need. H.O.P.E. projects range from supporting local charities to weeklong expeditions. Start helping others today by participating with a “Day of H.O.P.E.” in your community, or join us on an international support activity. Together, we can make a difference one day at a time.
The helping hands of our HopRocket members and staff have already made a difference in a variety of ways:
And we're just getting started!
The H.O.P.E. Initiative - My Experience at St. Cecilia's Primary School in Nassau, Bahamas By Nate Benincosa
If you were to ask any of our recent Bahamas cruise attendees what the highlight of their trip was, invariably, most of them would reply with “The H.O.P.E. activity!” It truly set a tone for the rest of the trip and, for some, it proved to be a life-changing experience.
Here we were, on a cruise ship called “The Majesty of the Seas” which was made up of 12 decks of fabulousness. The folks at Royal Caribbean offered all the food you could eat, spa treatments, a casino, bars, lounges, pools, room service, entertainment options, shops and boutiques and other forms of luxury. The one thing that wasn’t included: A meaningful experience where we were able to give back.
Welcome to the HopRocket! We are here to share our favorite travel experiences, tips and tricks, and things that are going on with us. We have a passion for all things travel, and we hope you do to! Follow along, join in on the fun, and let’s go explore the world together.
